Questions

What people ask us most

Does a dimmer also turn the light on and off?

Yes. Our dimmers work as full switches. The single pole dimmer clicks off at the end of its turn; the 3 way dimmer turns on and off with a push of the knob and can also be used on a single pole circuit.

Do the plate and the switch come together?

Yes. Each plate arrives as one piece, with every mechanism already mounted behind it and matching brass screws. You do not need to buy a separate device or cover.

Does it fit standard US electrical boxes?

Yes. Our plates are made for standard North American boxes, for both replacements and new construction. A wall box depth of about 2 1/8 inches is recommended.

Which finish should I choose?

Lacquered finishes stay as delivered. Unlacquered Antique Brass is a living finish that arrives lighter and develops its own patina. See them side by side on our finish comparator.

Are the switches and dimmers certified?

Knurled toggles, dimmers and outlets are UL listed. The Knurled single pole and 3 way toggles, the 3 way rotary dimmer and the 15A duplex outlet are also cULus listed for the US and Canada. The Retro Toggle is CE certified.

Will my LED lights work with the dimmer?

Our 120V dimmers work with dimmable LED bulbs and TRIAC (leading edge) drivers, with at least 20 W of LED per dimmer. For low voltage 0 to 10 V drivers or LED strips, choose the matching low voltage dimmer in the configurator.

Is it hard to install?

It wires like any standard switch, dimmer or outlet. We always recommend a licensed electrician. Our installation and compatibility guide covers each device.

Does it suit period or historic homes?

Yes. The solid brass plates and Retro or Knurled toggles fit pre war, industrial and transitional interiors without looking out of place.

Finishes & Natural Variations

Our wall plates are crafted from solid brass and finished entirely by hand. This process gives each piece a deeper, more refined look than plated alternatives, while naturally allowing for subtle variations from one item to another.

Aged Bronze (Hand-Brushed) — a rich, deep tone with a soft, greenish patina. The hand-brushed process ensures that every piece has its own unique character.

Antique Brass (Hand-Brushed) — an artisanal brushed finish with intentional variation. These differences are part of the design language, not imperfections.

Unlacquered Antique Brass (Hand-Brushed) — a living finish with no protective coating. Delivered with an aged appearance, it will continue to evolve over time as it reacts to air, touch, and its environment.

Satin Brass — a smooth brushed finish sealed with a protective lacquer. It maintains its original tone and slows down natural aging.

Stainless Steel — a clean, cool metallic finish with a refined brushed texture.

Matte Black — a solid brass base coated in a deep matte black for a bold, architectural presence.

White — a clean, minimalist coating over solid brass for a crisp, understated look.

Batch variation & hand-finishing notes:

Because each plate is finished by hand, slight differences in tone and patina between batches are expected. Factors such as brushing pressure, polishing, paint mixing, and even humidity can influence the final appearance.

Most finishes may vary by up to approximately 10% between batches.

For Unlacquered Antique Brass, a distinct oxidizing process is used. As a result, variations can be more pronounced, sometimes reaching up to 30% lighter or darker tones.

To ensure consistency, we make every effort to ship items from the same production batch whenever possible.

These natural variations are an inherent characteristic of genuine brass and are not considered defects.

Installation Guide

What’s Included

Brass wall plate, toggle switch mechanism, and all necessary mounting hardware.

Installation Steps

Step 1: Cut the Power

Before beginning, switch off the power at your circuit breaker or fuse box to ensure a safe installation.

Step 2: Remove the Existing Wall Plate

Unscrew and carefully remove the current cover plate. Gently lift it away and set it aside.

Step 3: Remove the Existing Switch

Unscrew the switch from the electrical box and gently pull it forward to expose the wiring.

Step 4: Disconnect the Wiring

Carefully detach the wires from the existing switch.

• If wires are secured under screws, loosen them.

• If inserted into rear terminals, cut and strip the ends if necessary.

Step 5: Wire the New Toggle Switch

Connect each wire to the corresponding terminal on the new switch:

• Black (live) wire → brass or black screw

• White (neutral) wire → silver screw (if applicable)

• Green or bare copper wire → green ground screw

Tighten all connections securely.

Step 6: Install the New Switch

Gently fold the wires back into the electrical box. Align the switch and secure it using the provided screws.

Step 7: Mount the Brass Plate

Place the brass wall plate over the switch and fasten it with the included screws.

Step 8: Restore Power

Turn the power back on at the breaker or fuse box.

Step 9: Test the Switch

Flip the toggle up and down to confirm proper operation. The connected light or device should respond smoothly.

If you have any doubts or encounter any issues during installation, consult a licensed electrician. Safety is always the priority.

What People Ask Us Most

Can a dimmer also turn the light on and off?

Yes. A dimmer isn't just for brightness, it works as a full switch, turning your light on and off like any standard one. If you want a dimmer that turns on/off by pushing the knob, choose a 3-way dimmer.

What makes it different from other switches?

It's cast from solid brass, not zinc or plastic with a brass coat. The weight, the click, the finish everything is built to a standard most switches don't meet.

Does it fit standard US electrical boxes?

Yes. It is designed for standard US electrical boxes, which makes it suitable for both replacements and new installations.

How long will the finish last?

Indefinitely with normal use. Brass is one of the most wear-resistant metals it doesn't chip, peel, or corrode.

The lacquered finish protects it for 10+ years. The unlacquered version will patina naturally over time.

How long does installation usually take?

In many cases, installation takes only around 5 minutes, making it a simple upgrade for your space.

Does it work in historical or period homes?

Yes, the profile and finish are period-appropriate and complement pre-war, industrial, and transitional interiors without looking out of place.

Is it suitable for high-traffic areas?

Yes. Rated for 1,000,000+ cycles. Built for daily use over decades.

Is the product handcrafted?

Yes. Each Switch is carefully made by hand, with close attention to finish and detail.

Are the switches and dimmers UL certified?

Knurled toggles, dimmers and outlets are UL listed. The Knurled single pole and 3 way toggles, the 3 way rotary dimmer and the 15A duplex outlet are also cULus listed for the US and Canada. The Retro Toggle is CE certified.

Is it easy to install?

Yes, fits any US Standard electrical box in under 5 minutes. No special tools required.
