Description

Crafted for straightforward control, this brass fan speed control switch is a manual 120V wall-mounted solution designed for standard ceiling paddle fans in U.S. residential installations.

Rated at 120VAC, 60Hz and UL Listed, it is intended for setups where the fan and light are wired separately within the wall box. It serves as a direct replacement for traditional mechanical fan switches, gear-style controls, or stepless manual controllers.

This control is not compatible with smart fans, remote-controlled fans, or any system that includes built-in electronic modules or receivers.

Depending on the fan, an initial increase in power may be required to start the blades. It is therefore normal for the knob to be turned roughly halfway before the fan begins to spin. Once running, the speed can then be adjusted smoothly and precisely.

About Unlacquered Antique Brass: this is a handmade finish, made to order. Each piece is hand brushed, then oxidized by hand, so no two pieces are exactly alike and the brass keeps developing a natural patina over time. Current lead time for this finish: about 3 weeks of production before shipping.

Finishes & Natural Variations

Our wall plates are crafted from solid brass and finished entirely by hand. This process gives each piece a deeper, more refined look than plated alternatives, while naturally allowing for subtle variations from one item to another.

Aged Bronze (Hand-Brushed) — a rich, deep tone with a soft, greenish patina. The hand-brushed process ensures that every piece has its own unique character.

Antique Brass (Hand-Brushed) — an artisanal brushed finish with intentional variation. These differences are part of the design language, not imperfections.

Unlacquered Antique Brass (Hand-Brushed) — a living finish with no protective coating. Delivered with an aged appearance, it will continue to evolve over time as it reacts to air, touch, and its environment.

Satin Brass — a smooth brushed finish sealed with a protective lacquer. It maintains its original tone and slows down natural aging.

Stainless Steel — a clean, cool metallic finish with a refined brushed texture.

Matte Black — a solid brass base coated in a deep matte black for a bold, architectural presence.

White — a clean, minimalist coating over solid brass for a crisp, understated look.

Batch variation & hand-finishing notes:

Because each plate is finished by hand, slight differences in tone and patina between batches are expected. Factors such as brushing pressure, polishing, paint mixing, and even humidity can influence the final appearance.

Most finishes may vary by up to approximately 10% between batches.

For Unlacquered Antique Brass, a distinct oxidizing process is used. As a result, variations can be more pronounced, sometimes reaching up to 30% lighter or darker tones.

To ensure consistency, we make every effort to ship items from the same production batch whenever possible.

These natural variations are an inherent characteristic of genuine brass and are not considered defects.

Installation Guide

Product Includes

Brass plate, diamond cut dimmer knob, plus all required mounting hardware.

Installation Steps

Step 1: Turn Off the Power

Before you begin, switch off the power to the circuit at your home’s breaker panel or fuse box for safety.

Step 2: Remove the Old Cover Plate

Use a screwdriver to loosen the screws holding the existing cover plate. Remove it carefully and place it aside.

Step 3: Take Out the Old Switch

Unscrew the fasteners securing the old switch to the electrical box, then gently pull the switch outward.

Step 4: Disconnect the Wires

Carefully detach the wires from the old switch.

• If the wires are looped around screws, loosen the screws to release them.

• If the wires are pushed into holes at the back of the switch, you may need to cut and strip them using a wire stripper.

Step 5: Connect the Wires to the New Switch

Attach the wires to the new dimmer switch.

• If the switch uses screws, wrap the wires around them and tighten securely.

• If the switch has push in holes, insert the stripped wire ends into the openings.

Step 6: Secure the New Switch

Carefully place the wires back into the electrical box and fasten the new switch using the included screws.

Step 7: Attach the New Cover Plate

Position the new cover plate over the switch and secure it in place with the screws.

Step 8: Turn the Power Back On

Once everything is installed, restore power at the breaker panel or fuse box.

Step 9: Test Your New Switch

Turn the dimmer knob to confirm everything is working correctly. If installed properly, your lights should brighten and dim smoothly.

If anything seems unclear or does not feel right during installation, contact a licensed electrician. Safety should always come first.

How it's made

Made by hand, one piece at a time

Each plate is cut from solid brass and the knob is solid brass too. There is no plastic frame and no second face plate: the plate is one plain, smooth piece, so your wall reads as a single detail rather than a gadget.

Every piece is then finished by hand, brushed, aged or polished one at a time, and checked before it leaves the workshop. That is why no two plates are exactly alike, and why it feels so different the first time you reach for it.
